Rouge Nailbar Featured Tourisme Montreal’s Montreal Buzz

I’ve raved more than once about my favourite little beauty bars where I love to treat myself and get my nails done. Vanity is a curse; I know. So, when mini-Montreal chain Rouge Nail Bar opened up a “sister concept” – Bleu Blow Dry Bar – right next door to their Fairmount location, my first thought was, This is a match made in heaven. Or was it, Thank heaven! (more…)

What people are saying about Rouge Nail Bar …..

It’s clean, it’s friendly, it’s modern, it’s green, it’s open late, it’s affordable, it’s in Montreal’s cool Plateau area, it has an outdoor little patio with comfy couches right on the sidewalk and it’s incredibly fun. Start packing girls, we have a 10/10!

My friends and I had such a great time last night and we’re absolutely thrilled to have finally found a nail bar in our city that’s fun and girlie and (best of all) affordable!

Rory Richards is pretty darn cool. And lucky for us, the Vancouver PR guru just helped boost The Main’s cool quotient by opening the sexy new Rouge Nail Bar on St. Laurent Blvd. at the corner of Roy St. “I came here for the Leonard Cohen concert last year,” she said. “And I just fell in love with Montréal.”

Surprisingly, Richards returned to start a business here. “At one point me and my girlfriends wanted to get our nails done,” she said. “But the Opus Hotel, where I stayed for the concert, kept sending us to spas or cheap in-and-out nail parlours.”

So the stylish and savvy Richards waltzed right through the open-door business opportunity and created a chic eco-friendly nail salon. Well, it’s as eco-friendly as a nail salon can be – the Vancouver-based products she uses are all natural, but the O.P.I. nail polish is the real (read: less natural) deal.

After falling through the Montréal rabbit-hole, Richards is now living her dream. “This is surreal,” she remarked at her Rouge Nail Bar launch party last week. The PR-perfect event boasted velvet ropes and

Opus Hotel catering; in the crowd were local movie producer big wigs and rising young graffiti talent (the 156 All Starz crew did the outside mural). Personal touches include authentic Leonard Cohen prints adorning the walls, as Richards is now an avid collector of the singer’s artwork. For fun girly-moment pedicures, Richards also installed white leather couches, which makes relaxing with your pals much comfier.

MTL: Nail Bait
Friday, Jul 24, 2009

Hide that emery board (filing our own nails is so 2006).
We outsource this kind of beauty maintenance as often as our pocketbook permits. And it looks like we’ll be hiring “help” on a more regular (and spontaneous) basis, now that Rouge nail bar has opened on St. Laurent Blvd.

Once through the door (no appointment necessary), we sank into the white leather sofa and enjoyed some groovy lounge music. We surveyed the new summer nail colours, like “Monsooner or Later” by OPI, and eyeballed original artwork by Montréal legend Leonard Cohen from the personal collection of Rouge owner Rory Richards.

Sometimes a girl just wants a quick manicure ($25) or polish change ($12). A combo Rouge Mani/Pedi is just $45, or we can really splurge on the deluxe Mani/Pedi ($65) with paraffin to the knee. And not only is Rouge cultured, it’s eco-friendly. Using only organic products, like the Barefoot Venus line, to soak, scrub, moisturize and wax your feet, the staff is obsessed with hygiene.

As Rouge’s patron saint, Cohen would definitely approve of the lounge-like ambiance (the crooner allegedly has a fondness for red nail polish). Don’t we all?

Ongles
